Architect firm _naturehumaine, based in Montreal have designed the interiors of a traditional, yet modern bakery/cafe in Côte-des-Neiges, Montreal, Canada.

The ‘Au Pain Doré’ wanted a renovated look to give it contemporary appeal whilst retaining the reputation of a bakery/cafe that provided traditional breads and high-quality coffee. Taking inspiration from wooden bread baskets, the interior has been installed with long wooden slats that run along the 1500ft space, opening up in places for lighting and ventilation. The entire structure of the wooden slats branch off the ceiling to create shelving, benches and counter tops.

The simple design and modern style of the cafe shows a strong representation of the European style barista cafe/bakeries popping up around the world. The use of a select colour palette and materials adds a lively appeal to the interior making it warm and welcoming, yet keeping the essence of the commercial space intact.
