The London Design Festival takes off later this year with numerous events and shows around the capital, however an earlier taste of current furniture, product design and lighting trends is only around the corner. The next half of this month features a selection of high quality design exhibitions to get us started. We present a low down of some of the not to be missed happenings for your design calendar over the next few weeks.
May Design Series

This year May Design Series brings a showcase of furniture, lighting, surfaces and a range of informative conferences and CPD seminars. Alongside speakers from Dulux, FIRA, Arup and Herman Miller, the conferences present a mixtures of insightful discussions covering hospitality, workplace design, lighting and more.
Presenting a far-reaching coverage of international and european designers, this year May design series presents a special section dedicated to British design. The section, titled New Design Britain will showcase the freshest talent from around the country in hopes to highlight the huge wealth of homegrown design brilliance. Giving these young graduates a platform at one of the biggest design shows within the capital is a great way to give them a boost within the trade sector and aims to help open up new opportunities.
Clerkenwell Design Week

With one of the highest concentrations of architects and interior designers anywhere in the country, Clerkenwell based showrooms and designers open up their doors to welcome all. The three day event is a design festival presenting a wealth of local and international designers. Alongside over 50 showrooms, four key venues showcasing the latest and greatest in furniture design, product design and lighting.
A host of leading minds within the industry from Design Guild Mark to Adrem will feature alongside leading designers and architects over the Conversations at Clerkenwell talks. Some of the highlights of the event include the creative outdoors installations. One such feature this year will include a pavilion housed by a new modular canopy system designed by Grimshaw and MDT-tex. The structure presents a lightweight and high design aesthetic for outdoors activities. The installation will be located by St James Church.
RHS Chelsea Flower Show

Although not a traditional design exhibition, the RHS Chelsea Flow show presents a stunning display of ingenious landscape design. The show presents a valuable insight into how the various exhibitors delve into new realms of creativity. Providing inspiration and ingenuity, the show hosts a range of spaces designed by leading companies and organisations.
Exhibitions include a garden inspired by a small suburb of Singapore, an aromatice and perfumed experience garden, and a garden that will be created to raise awareness of the issues associated to children’s health and welfare in Lesotho, South Africa.
