Spanish design studio Lievore Altherr Molina presented the sleek Catifa 46 chair range, designed to offer optimal use in a wide range of contract applications. Known for combining functioning and practical qualities and modern design, the design studio run by creative heads Alberto Lievore, Jeannette Altherr and Manel Molina, developed a highly flexible seating range that can suit any number of interiors from workplace, cafés to a classroom. The range of variations offered, from base style to seat finish, makes the Catifa adaptable for a large variety of functions without losing the original distinct form. Here we present just four of the many ways the Catifa can be customised to fit into an interior setting.
The meeting room/workplace chair
With sporadic and spontaneous interactions, flexible and agile working environments and a much more diverse take on workplace design, the selection of seating has become a lot more dynamic. Practical with a nonchalant style, the Catifa 46 chair has been designed for the modern and versatile workplace. The unique seat shape is the distinctive feature that remains consistent when selecting from the wide range of base options including a sled base, a four-star swivel base, or a five star castor base. The selection of base options really adds a flexibility to negate the chair style according to the functions of the space. The seat variants available include a choice of either polypropylene seat or a double curved plywood choice upholstered in fabric, leather or faux leather. An original ribbed upholstery finish option is also available to add a very smart finish to the Catifa on the upholstery versions.
The hospitality interior
One of the key qualities for café and restaurant seating is the need for a resilient enough option that will look as good, a few years later. It needs to offer adequate support and comfort for the user, whilst also how the space will be used. In an interior setting where the footfall is higher, such as a coffee shop, a polypropylene chair makes an adequate choice. Offering both comfort and durability, the Catifa 46 is a good fit with its slimline design and smart appeal. The essential character of the chair’s casual and modern appeal is the soft curved seat form that presents the user with added comfort. For a café setting, the Catifa is ideal with varying dual colour seat finish in the polypropylene material. Choose from a bold black outer shell finish or one of the other options such as lime, orange or beige to contrast with the white inner seat shell. Supported by a four leg or sled base, the chair is lightweight and stackable, useful for cleaning around it.
The conference setting
This simple and highly flexible chair is a great choice for conference seating arrangements too such as art galleries and museums, small conference venues, educational settings and the workplace. Lightweight, with a slightly more compact seat width of 56 cm, the Catifa 46 shouldn’t be under estimated; the design surrounds the functionality of contract seating to support daily wear in constantly changing environments. The high-grade polypropylene seat is formed with a curved shape that functions as added support for the user with the option of armrests also available. For interiors that need to economise on space, the Catifa 46 chair can be stacked 10 chairs high. Other functions include a linking system for a stable setting and also optional seat padding for enhanced comfort. As true to the nature of design from the studio of Lievore Altherr Molina, the Catifa 46 has been formed to offer unlimited possibilities.
The Bar stool choice
To create variations in seating within hospitality interiors, whether addressing spatial constraints or to simply add some bar-height options, the Catifa 46 chair comes full circle completing the vast array of possible applications with a bar height chair. Taking the original features of the chair option, the bar height stool maintains the smart and nonchalant aesthetic of the high back chair but with a wider seat form. This does not take away from the design style as the chromed steel tubular sled base provides ample support and maintains the slim form of the original chair. Alongside integrated footrest bar, the Catifa bar stool is still functions as a fully stackable option; a handy requirement for flexible application.
